Sermon of the Week: And then there was love

Living the Love Walk, Pastor Kevin Mitchell with granddaughter

My new assistant

Hello Family and new family members, I am Pastor Kevin of Living the Love Walk In Reach Ministry. Thank you, in advance, for receiving our experience, strength, and wisdom that we will share with you weekly.

We are soldiers of love equipped with love and the word. In 2001, God had charged me with taking the Love (Agape) walk, not the world’s love, back into the Christian Community because we seem to have walked away from it and it is not manifesting through our life styles or our daily teaching. Put a Christian next to a secular worldly person and sometimes you see no difference.

Back to the story, about 3 weeks after this charge I believe the test from God was on. Right before our Friday early evening Gathering Service I received a phone call saying my 16-year-old son, Ethan, was at the hospital in the emergency room due to a confrontation between him and another student at the school in the football locker room.

As I headed out and hopped on the freeway zipping in and out, driving during rush hour my mind was running fast and a little bit crazy. Thank God for the seren- ity Prayer “God grant me the serenity to accept the thing I cannot change, the power to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Thy will not mine be done. With this prayer and my relationship with the Holy Spirit that dwells in me, I received the comfort from the comforter and the power from him to know everything was going to be all right.

As I exited the freeway, with a conversation going on between the Holy Spirit and me, I could feel the wisdom coming from the Holy Spirit and into my spirit and the instructions on what to do. As I entered the emergency room, I was told how my son’s  teeth were knocked to the back of his mouth from the blow of the other boy; he was to have  emergency surgery that evening and it was only one thing to do. I remember telling my son I guess I have to walk the way I talk.

We prayed for the young man who did this to my son. There were no hard feelings, we were very secure in our action, and we sang a hymn. “Thank you Jesus, thank you.” This was the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and the Love walk of Jesus Christ in action. I know that the Father was pleased. My son’s surgery went well. Ethan and the young man ended up playing together on the football team that next year.

That was the beginning of the love walk mission. Our mission is to take the love walk of Jesus Christ to the Christian Community – powered by the Holy Spirit, implemented by a Spiritual maintenance plan to establish, enhance and live having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

What authority authorizes this mission Pastor Kevin? Well John 13:34 says, “A new command I give you. Love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” But Pastor Kevin, can you explain this type of Love? Umm, I will try.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says” Love is patient, loves is kind; It does not need envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Wow! Now we understand the story. So Family, God has blessed me with a team of Love Walkers. They are called and positioned in different areas of ministry, but have that character of love developing in them as the spirit continues to grow them in Christian maturity.

So let’s end with this; 1st Corinthians 13: 1-4 says, “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of proph- ecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

So Family, as you journey with us, may we all continue to live in peace and harmony with each other.
