Message to the Overcomer: Take No Thought

TAKE NO THOUGHT

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”, Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)

“So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble”, Matthew 6:24 (Amplified)

There you have it, three versions, one command.  King James says to “take no thought for the morrow”.  God is not telling us to ignore planning for the future.  Nor is he telling us to live haphazardly.  The Amplified version says it best, do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow.  If we spend time taking care of each day as it comes, then we find there is no time for wondering what tomorrow will bring.

I want to share a few reasons why we should restrain ourselves from the trap of worrying about what tomorrow holds.

 1. Worry is sin.  Why?  It demonstrates a lack of trust in God, your heavenly father.  “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” 1 Peter 5:7
a. Worry (anxiety) is a disease, causing sickness.
b. Worry (anxiety) is mental and physical suicide.
c. Worry (anxiety) is mental cruelty to self.
d. Worry (anxiety) is a grave digger that has no sympathy.
   e. Worry (anxiety) is a stumbling block to others.
2. Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust… Psalms 40:4
a. Worry is anticipating trouble.
b. Worry is borrowing trouble that cannot be paid back.
c. Worry is a waste of time that should be spent on     worthwhile things.
d. Worry creates trouble, misery and death.
e. Worry is brooding over what may or may not happen.

Worry robs your faith.  It robs your peace and your trust in a never failing heavenly father.  Scripture has much to say to us about trust.  Trust is the backbone of faith.  Or is faith the backbone of trust?  However you see it, both are necessary and both are able to put worry in its place, under your feet.

How to overcome worry and anxiety:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, Philippians 4:6.

It says, in everything not for everything.  It is difficult to thank God for bad things, but while in difficult situations we can thank him for HIS goodness, HIS kindness and HIS mercy.  We can praise Him because He is worthy of all praise.  Talk to God about your concerns and avoid meditating on them.  He is the one who can deliver you from all your distresses.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7.

This is the result of making a choice to praise God while going through rough times.  Yes, we must choose to worship, choose to praise, and choose to offer thanksgiving to God.  You must purpose in your heart to talk with God, and allow him to work things out for you.

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever”, Psalm 125:1.

One last thought, Worry takes you out of the realm of faith.  Faith is for now.  Faith is not for the future.  Hope is for the future.  Faith is for right now, today.  Faith is not for the past.  We cannot live in the past and we cannot live in the future. To live in the past causes you to miss out on what God is doing, right now.  Living in the past will rob you of your destiny and your purpose.  Living in the future is just as bad.  While you are day dreaming about what might be, you miss out on the now.  Whether good times or not so good times God is in control.  One day at a time.  Today is the most important day.  When tomorrow comes it will be today and it is the most important day.

“In everything gives thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

 Yours in Christ Jesus

Rosita
