Overcoming a Job Well Done
The Church at Ephesus was well equipped with the revelation of the mystery of Christ, with grace to spare. They understood the concept of the Body of Christ, and was familiar with spiritual warfare (see Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians). Their momentum for serving the Lord carried them to an incomparable status with Christ; they were first on His list for commendation.
Notwithstanding, in all of this, the Lord had something against this Church. They had left their first love. They had become so in love with the work of the Lord, it is not small wonder why the Lord was more concerned over this church’s love than with others.
The answer is in the knowledge they had of Him. The better we know Him, the more He wants to fellowship with us. We should say along with the apostle, “That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made comformable unto his death”. Philippians 3:10.
To overcome a job well done requires a knowledge of the true calling of God. As the apostle again says, “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord”. 1 Corinthians 1:9. The beloved apostle John says,”…our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” 1 John 1:3b.
An overcomer’s day does not begin with serving the Lord, it begins with, “As they ministered to the Lord”. Acts 13:2
