Why do you think God allows us to go through unpleasant experiences? Do you think it’s because He is evil, unloving or uncaring? Or could it be that He is trying to teach us a lesson? I account it to God allowing us to see our weakness and to subsequently go to Him for strength. He wants us to depend on Him for all things; the small things as well as the great things. In doing this, God proves that His power is made perfect in our weakness.
The Apostle Paul described it as having a thorn in the flesh. Three times Paul asked God to remove his thorn, and three times God said no. This didn’t mean that God didn’t love Paul. It simply meant that God decided to empower Paul in spite of his thorn, to keep Paul dependent on God’s strength. God proved to Paul that His power was made perfect in Paul’s weakness.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
