Isn’t it disappointing when you try to forewarn someone about something and they fail to listen or take heed to what you have to say. This often happens with our very own children. As parents, we tend to advise our kids based on the mistakes we’ve made in the past, hoping to avoid repeat failure, but our “know it all” children just insist on doing things their own way. And in spite of telling them so, we, as parents, are there to clean up the mess.
I can imagine how John the Baptiste felt as he was trying to encourage people to repent and be baptized. Better yet, what about those who heard John the Baptist preaching and ignored what he had to say! I’m sure they wish they could have a do-over! Well, you can’t say they weren’t told.
Can we agree to carry out the assignment we were given of spreading the Good News. Can we tell someone what God has done for us, and how we have come to love Him so much. Can we share the small miracles that we see on a daily basis, that others may take for granted or think is the norm. Can we tell everyone that they can live forever through Jesus Christ; it’s the free gift of God. What they choose to do with this knowledge is totally up to them. All you can say is “I told you so!”
10 Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. 11 Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”
