My Brother’s Keeper
After he killed his brother Abel, God asked Cain what had happened. Cain replied with an attempt to escape responsibility for what he had done, asking “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Many of us have that same approach about people today. We not only have this view about our own family members, but total strangers more so. Please allow me to shed some light on this question. Yes! You are your brother’s keeper! We were all created to be a part of God’s family. This means we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and God intends for us to experience life together; encouraging, supporting, exalting and promoting one another. Our brethren provide us with an opportunity for growth and a test of fellowship. So, let’s answer this question, “Will we love them as brothers and sisters and treat them with respect and dignity?”
“So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-26 (NIV)
