As Christians, we have many responsibilities that are proper, yet sometimes what is good can get in the way of what is better. For example, Mary and Martha were two sisters who were dearly loved by Jesus. While Jesus visited them, Martha was consumed with cooking, cleaning, and the like, as Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His Word. Martha allowed that which is good get in the way of that which is better while Mary had the discipline to seek first things first, putting the better before the good.
Are you distracted by things that may be good within themselves? Or are you disciplined to seek that which is
better, the one thing that is really needed? Are you a Mary…or a Martha?
But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6: 33 (NKJV)
