Message to the Overcomer

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am temped by God” for God cannot be tempted by evil nor does he himself tempt anyone.  But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.  Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown brings forth death.”  James 1:13-14

Ever wonder why Jesus did not give in to the temptations of the enemy while in the wilderness?  Beside the fact that He is God, there is another reason.  James says, that temptation is a result of desire.  Jesus had only one desire, and that was to do the will of the Father.  

So, when the enemy came to try and tempt him to turn the stones into bread, Jesus’ only desire was to live according to every word that proceeded from the mouth of God.  Natural bread was o.k. but he knew his life came from the supernaturalbread of God.  He was not interest in eating.  Therefore it was not tempting to him.

The enemy also tried to tempt Jesus with things.”All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me” Matthew 4:8-9.  Again, Jesus was not interested in things, his desire was to worship God.  So He was not drawn away of his own lusts and desires.

So, when was the last time you were drawn away of your own desires and thus entering into temptaion?  The desire that self has can get us into much trouble.  

When the enemy comes, will he find something in you?  Will he find desires that are contrary to the will of God?  Will he find desires that come from him?  Will you identify with the temptation and yield to the lust of the flesh?  Can you see it?  

If you are not interested in robbing a bank, then you cannot be tempted to rob a bank.  You have no desire to rob the bank. If you have a desire for another man’s wife, then when she begans to flirt with you, temptation will knock at the door and you will answer.  Why?  Because your desire is for her and now opportunity has knocked.

Can you see it?  The scripture is clear.  Temptation is a result of the lust, or desire that we have inside of us.
